off campus student accommodation seems to be more of a problem than it should be. Students result to this type of accommodation when they have not been accepted res. The housing is fairly expensive and yet land lords still fail students at my current commune we live in flats at the back renting two thousand rand each.
Yet we have experienced two thefts, i shall not call them a robbery since the students where told if there is no forced entry then it is not a robbery, " if you leave your window open and things are taken it is not our problem", said landlord. This is in a yard that has no lock to the gate and it is of normality to open windows.
Landlords run away from all responsibility but once they have a bad group of tenants they attend to that quickly. It should be on the lease that you live in our yard at your own risk. The advantage to these landlords is that there will always be an influx of students needing places to stay and the humewood flats are too far, so our first option is to live in summerstrand.
The careless attitudes of landlords is not acceptable,it is not that we want mothers but someone to report to when things go wrong and have something done about it!
